The Paradox of Time

My 4th album was inspired by Aristotle’s ‘Paradox of time.’ “The past is gone. It no longer exists. The future has not yet arrived. It does not exist either. And the present? If we think of it carefully, it seems like nothing more than a razor-thin boundary between two things that do not exist.”

I explore this concept throughout side one of this album through the first four (connected) tracks. The first track, Evolution, considers ‘trying to comprehend that nothing exists’ before the beginning of the universe (and time!) and the subsequent evolution of elements and matter and ultimately to ‘the complex things of life.’ And, how we, as homo sapiens, have our own individual thoughts. The second track, Interstellar, considers how we travel forward, during our lives, through time. as part of this evolution. The third track, The Paradox of Time, considers Aristotle’s theory and that of relativity and if this might also apply to the ‘living things side by side.’ The final track, of these musings, is, Evolution’s End, that ‘tries to comprehend’ what happens when the universe reaches its end…all accompanied by true prog symphonic style rock music…

The other 4 songs, on side 2, all have a theme related to time and space.

All vocals, instruments and music created and performed by Andy Dickson, with the exception of Stratospheric that Scott Dickson wonderfully performed both bass and the ‘left ear’ reverse guitar noodling.

Mixing and mastering undertaken by Andy Dickson (for the first time!) and with great support and mentoring from Steve Plummer.

All music and lyrics on The Paradox of Time album was composed and written by Andy Dickson with lyrics on Evolution (‘These Are My Thoughts’ section) and Gravity (‘’Pulling Me Down section’) written by Janice Dickson and subject to Copyright 4861141 Records DK.

Harmony
Unchained

Harmony Unchained is my second album. The 4 compositions, that includes 1 instrumental, reflects my deep desire to create a ‘true prog’ album, with all the characteristics those who know the genre will (hopefully) recognise. The opening track being 21.5 minutes long with a ‘high concept’ narrative supported by varying musical styles including rock, folk, trippy vibes using keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars and harmonies.

The inspiration for the instrumental Slowly Slowly reminds me of when hiking at high altitude, surrounded by magnificent mountains and the need to walk slowly.

All vocals, instruments and music created and performed by Andy Dickson with the exception of:

Drums by Seth Gardner on: Slowly Slowly, Dawning Of Mind.

Post production mixing by the amazing Steve Plummer.

All music written by Andy Dickson. Lyrics for Harmony Unchained and Dawning Of Mind written by Janice Dickson. Lyrics for No More Shelter From The Sun written by Andy Dickson.

Natures’
Dance

Natures’ Dance is my first album. The 12 compositions, that includes 4 instrumentals, reflect my life in many ways through the words but especially through the musical sentiments created.

The inspiration for the instrumentals: Cloud9 is about the deep bond Janice had with her horse Clyde (his show name was Cloud9). Ghosts reflects the sentiment of joy and yearning for our previous dogs, Jana, Jody and Jazz. Mountain Top Dance is a nod to my like for dance music and reminds me of the time I danced on top of a mountain with locals in Nepal.

All vocals, instruments and music created and performed by Andy Dickson with the exception of:

Drums by Seth Gardner on: Natures’ Dance, Cheap Flight, No More Overthinking, Passengers, Ghosts, I’m Liking This, Shardlake.

Lead guitar on Everything’s Alright by Steve Plummer.

Shardlake performed by: Pauline Hatfield – lead vocals; John Hatfield – bass guitar; Steve Plummer – lead guitar; Seth Gardner – drums; Andy Dickson – keyboards and backing vocals.

All mixing and production by the amazing Steve Plummer.

Massive thanks to Paul Robb for his photography and album cover design.

All music and lyrics written by Andy Dickson, except lyrics for Passengers and Shardlake written by Seth Gardner.
